A few days back I recieved a mail from Google Adsense. It mentioned that Google is now going to launch interest based ads. These ads would be based on the interaction of a user with a site. This implies that now google is going to monitor every user of every website that signs up with such ads. Google can nnow really have a good look at all the visitors of a perticular website which registers with such a service.

A part of it is here:

“Interest-based advertising will allow advertisers to show ads based on a user’s previous interactions with them, such as visits to advertiser website and also to reach users based on their interests (e.g. “sports enthusiast”).  To develop interest categories, we will recognize the types of web pages users visit throughout the Google content network.  As an example, if they visit a number of sports pages, we will add them to the “sports enthusiast” interest category.”

This is a good news for Adwords users. Now their ads will be target to audience who are really interested in something their ad talks about as Google will display ads on based on user interest. However, this is kind of a question for regular internet users as most of their activity will be recorded by Google just to show some ads. Publishers who use Adsense may have different opinions. Some may assume that interest based ads will attract their visitors to click on more ads. Others may feel this is ridiculous as the visitors may reduce if they don’t want their internet activity to be recorded. Let’s see if Google’s this new experiment becomes succussful ot not.
